Palatant Production for Pet Food
Symrise is a global leader in value-added solutions for the pet food industry. They launched an ambitious new venture to increase their production capacity and solidify market leadership. The initiative aimed to completely outfit a new plant with all the important systems and infrastructure required to start production efficiently. This facility would not only reflect the company’s commitment to quality and innovation but also serve as a benchmark in hygienic, sustainable pet food manufacturing.
The company placed a strong emphasis on efficiency, reliability, and the implementation of industry-leading standards throughout the project. To meet these goals, Symrise needed a partner capable of providing complete solutions and an integrated equipment line. They chose INOXPA after a thorough evaluation. INOXPA is a brand known for its product portfolio, stability, and expertise in hygienic process systems.
Why Symrise Chose INOXPA
Due to its ability to provide a comprehensive suite of hygienic processing equipment under one roof, INOXPA has grown to be the perfect partner. Symrise benefited from accessing a wide range of essential components, including pumps, valves, mixers, and blenders from a single source. This eliminated the complexity of dealing with multiple suppliers and enabled the company to streamline procurement, reduce project management effort, and ensure compatibility across systems.
An important factor in this decision was INOXPA’s technical support structure. Having a local team in Brazil allowed INOXPA to give quick, personalized help during every step of the project, from planning to setup. This close teamwork built trust, prevented delays, and made sure all systems followed the strict hygiene and quality rules needed for pet food production.
Plus, the INOXPA Group’s wide experience and strong organization gave Symrise confidence that any future equipment upgrades or urgent repairs would be handled quickly and smoothly. These strengths made INOXPA more than just a supplier, they became a trusted partner, helping deliver powerful and future-ready solutions.
Installation Characteristics
The installation at Symrise's new plant in Brazil involved equipping the facility with an array of high-performance, hygienic machinery made for the different needs of the pet food industry. It is designed with modularity and scalability in mind. Without having major redesigns or downtimes, this setup allowed Symrise to adapt and expand operations as required.
Thirty-three pumps were used to make the core of the handling system and each was carefully selected for its effectiveness, ability to handle different viscosities, and excellent hygienic performance. The installed pumps included:
- 23 Prolac HCP centrifugal pumps, perfect for hygienic applications due to their high efficiency, maintenance, and CIP (Clean-In-Place) adaptability.
- 6 KVB progressive cavity pumps, which offer smooth handling of viscous materials with minimal pulsation.
- 2 SLR rotary lobe pumps, providing accurate, low-shear transfer for shear-sensitive and high-viscosity products.
- 2 KST progressive cavity pumps, offering consistent flow for pasty and thick materials.
A high-capacity M40 blender was also combined to support accurate formulation and product consistency. This system plays a very important role in ensuring thorough mixing of ingredients. It is a key requirement in the production of nutritionally balanced and palatable pet food.
Advanced Fluid Control & Integration
A main feature of the project was its fluid handling and valve infrastructure. This included the installation of 658 hygienic valves, such as:
- Butterfly valves
- Seat valves
- Ball valves
- Check valves
These valves were grouped into six fully instrumented valve manifolds, which helped increase automation, improve flow control, and for easy cleaning. This setup played a key role in preventing cross-contamination between batches, which is especially important in a plant handling different recipes and delicate formulations.
Thanks to INOXPA’s strong experience in manifold design and automation, the system was also easy to clean, maintain, and expand whenever needed.
Integrated Technologies for Holistic Performance
It's not just the pumps and valves that define success, in a modern facility like Symrise. The project also depended on several supporting systems that ensured efficiency and compliance with global standards.
Automated Conveyor Systems were implemented to improve internal logistics. These systems supported the safe, accurate, and hygienic movement of both raw materials and packaged products across the production floor. The plant reduced the risk of contamination and increased productivity with less need for manual handling by using conveyors.
The facility was also designed with sustainability in mind. A strong focus was placed on Water Treatment Components, as large amounts of water and processing liquids are used in pet food production. INOXPA’s hygienic valves and pumps were used in key liquid handling areas and CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems, where proper liquid treatment and recycling are essential. Adding these components helps the plant meet strict safety and environmental standards.
To improve operational efficiency and product quality, Symrise also added a bottle filling machine to its packaging line. This automation guaranteed consistent filling, limited product loss, and maintained hygiene standards. Since such machines often need to work in sync with fluid handling systems, INOXPA’s hygienic pumps and valves offered the compatibility needed for a smooth and integrated fill-to-pack process.
As an environmentally responsible company, Symrise also made provisions for Industrial Waste Water Treatment. To address the considerable wastewater produced during ingredient processing and cleaning, the plant integrates treatment systems that promote safe disposal and environmental compliance with all relevant regulations.
With CIP-compatible valves and modular systems from INOXPA, the plant achieved high standards of compliance, operational efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
Key Advantages of the Project
- INOXPA’s centrifugal pumps outperformed competitive models in terms of efficiency.
- Complete centralization of equipment procurement simplified vendor coordination.
- Strong local technical support ensured fast response during critical stages.
