Leading Tyre Manufacturer

Application

Cooling Tower & Chilled Water Circulation System

The Challenge

A major tyre manufacturing plant relied on a large network of chilled water and cooling  towers to remove heat generated during production.

During operation, heat is removed from the condenser by circulating cooling water The  hot water then goes to the cooling tower. Here excess heat is given off and the water is  returned to the system.

But the circulating water contained high levels of dissolved and suspended iron. Over  time, deposits of iron can build up in chilled water piping, condensers, heat exchangers  and other vital equipment, causing:

  •  Corrosion of pipelines internally
  • Lower efficiency of heat transfer
  • Contamination of condensers and cooling equipment
  • Higher requirements for maintenance
  • Reduced reliability of operation and equipment life

The customer required a dependable solution to continuously remove iron from the  circulating water and protect its valuable cooling infrastructure.

Alantech Solution

Alantech designed and supplied a 50 m³/hr Iron Removal Filter (IRF) System specifically  for industrial cooling water applications.

The system uses a high-performance catalytic filtration media that effectively reduces  the iron from the circulating water before it enters the cooling system.

The way out was to:

  • Continuously strips iron from the water stream
  • Protect chilled water pipes and cooling towers
  • Decrease corrosion and scale in the circulation network
  • Improve the efficiency of the heat exchange
  • Increase the life of critical cooling equipment
  • Require low maintenance and reliable long-term operation

Results Achieved

  • Iron related corrosion prevented in chilled water pipes
  • Reduced iron deposition in cooling tower circuits and condensers.
  • Enhanced overall heat transfer effectiveness.
  • Improved reliability of cooling water circulation system.
  • Reduced maintenance requirements and unplanned downtime potential.
  • Longer service life of valuable cooling equipment.

Project Highlights

Application: Cooling Tower Water Treatment

System Capacity: 50 m³/hr

Solution: Catalytic Iron Removal Filter System

Objective: To remove iron from the circulating water to protect chilled water pipelines  and cooling equipment.

Why Iron Removal Matters in Cooling Systems

Even small amounts of iron can slowly ruin industrial cooling systems. Iron deposits  impair exchanger efficiency, increase corrosion, raise maintenance costs and decrease  equipment life.

A well-designed iron removal system provides clean circulation water, energy efficiency,  protection of expensive infrastructure and uninterrupted plant operation.
